In the cold winter months, I try to do as much as possible to eat nutritious and anti-inflammatory foods to stay as healthy as possible. Everyone in my household has cycled through some version of a winter viral illness in the last few months, but I was spared (until now!) I think the combination of interrupted sleep plus work stress these last few weeks finally made me succumb to a cold. I’ve been doubling down on the anti-inflammatory foods and drinks in an effort to get well ASAP!
One of my favorite drinks to have when sick, or in general in the colder weather, is a hot turmeric milk drink. Common in Indian culture for thousands of years, this drink has gained popularity across the globe in recent years. We all know of the naturally anti-inflammatory effects of turmeric by now. I make mine with non-dairy milk to eliminate the inflammatory effect of dairy. I really enjoy this beverage and hope you will too if you’ve never tried it. Just remember that turmeric has a very strong flavor, so a little goes a long way!
