Our last two days in Thailand showed us the monsoon season weather that is expected this time of year. The days were cloudy and intermittently rainy, sometimes pouring down and sometimes misting lightly. This did not stop us from exploring some more, however! Our fourth day in Thailand was supposed to have been spent touring the islands of Phi Phi and Maya, where Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie The Beach was filmed. Unfortunately, the storm that swept in overnight made the waters too choppy for the outing. We decided to head into Kamala town instead. For those planning a trip to Thailand, I would not recommend Kamala beach if you are looking for sandy stretches and crystalline waters. Although this beach is not as crowded as some of the more popular beaches of Thailand, it is also undeveloped. The beach town is very touristy and you won’t find any good shopping deals there either. We spent a few hours wandering around and then found a tiny gem of a coffee shop to pass the last hour before our ride back to the resort. It was an unexpected haven in the rain, with odd trinkets and vintage furniture that made for some fun photographing. A cup of cafe latte and the sound of rain were not so bad after all.
